Peel Regional Police have released few details, saying only that one person was shot and pronounced dead a short time later. They said the call was received at 11:53 a.m.
Police didn’t provide any additional information about the victim nor have they released any information about a suspect or suspects.
Speaking to the media from the busy airport-area scene shortly before 3 p.m., a Peel police spokesperson said investigators believe the shooting to be an isolated incident with “no threat to public safety at this time.”
The spokesperson added patrol officers first on the scene “rendered assistance” to the victim, who a short time later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said officers are canvassing the industrial area in a search for witnesses to the shooting and any video footage that might have caught the violence on camera as it unfolded.
The spokesperson didn’t reveal any additional details, saying the investigation remains in its early stages.
