MERRITT - Merritt Councilor Mike, who resigned recently from his position, has clarified his stance as to what happened and why he resigned. Bhangu told DESIBUZZCanada that many people are still curious to know what he meant by my resignation statement, suggesting that he no longer has confidence in the Mayor. He provided us with the following statement which he hopes might satisfy the people.
MIKE BHANGU’S STATEMENT:
“Since entering City Hall, I’ve experienced an undue hostility. However, this isn’t the reason I resigned. I resigned due to the Mayor’s response during the 2021 Flood Evacuation. A few things happened that left an unsettling vibe with me.
“For example, during the evacuation, food, water, and medicine were denied to those who did not evacuate, and many Merrittonians stayed behind for legitimate reasons (medical conditions, autistic children, old age, lack of finances, etc.).
“This, in my opinion, challenges Canadian values, and absolutely violates my personal values.
“Moreover, the Mayor suggested, in an interview, that she knew something catastrophic was coming before the flood hit Merritt. The Mayor did not share this information with me. What did the Mayor know?”
