SURREY – A South Asian man wanted in an alleged Surrey bank robbery on August 10 was arrested by Surrey RCMP last Thursday in Abbotsford

Following the publication of a news release, officers received information from the public allowing them to quickly locate the alleged suspect in the Abbotsford area.
Last Thursday, officers from the Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit arrested the suspect without incident.
“Thanks to some observant members of the public and our media partners, our officers were able to quickly apprehend the suspect,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann. “Our Robbery Unit has a very high clearance rate for solving financial institution robberies and bringing those responsible to justice.”
Kumar was described as a South Asian male in his early 20s, with a thin build. He was wearing a black and red jacket with white stripes and "West Coast Selects FC" on the South Asian-Bank Robbery upper left chest.
On Wednesday (Aug. 10) at around 3:50 p.m., police received a report of a bank robbery near the intersection of 120th Street and Nordel Way. The suspect produced a weapon and threatened staff before fleeing the scene, police say.
Nobody was hurt during the incident.
Surrey RCMP's robbery unit obtained and released the surveillance photo of Kumar last week.
