SURREY – An Indo-Canadian man died Wednesday night in the Panorama Ridge area of Surrey and police arrested the man’s son Thursday morning after he was found sleeping at a neighbour’s garage.

On February 17, shortly after 8:30 p.m. Surrey RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a residence in the 5500-block of 125 Street. Officers attended and located a critically injured man outside of the residence.

Surrey RCMP Frontline members performed CPR, administered an AED and shortly after the BC Ambulance Service attended and provided treatment and care to the man. But despite the emergency care, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The initial indications are that both parties are known to one another. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP.

Police arrested the son in view of media members who were covering the crime scene.

Investigators called the death a “tragic and isolated incident.”

Police said they are currently in the evidence-gathering phase. They did not provide the identities of the deceased or the man arrested.

A neighbour, Simrit Gill, told reporters that the man who was taken away by police in handcuffs had been found sleeping inside a shed on Gill’s property.

The man was barefoot and disoriented, said Gill.
