Sims’ Says If Doug McCallum Renovated His Home Without Permits Why Should Anyone Else In Surrey?
- October 14, 2022
Jinny Sims and Surrey Forward brought bombshell allegations in the dying days of the campaign, saying Surrey mayor Doug McCallum has been found to have renovated his own home without permits. “How can we expect the average property owner in Surrey to follow the laws when their Mayor doesn’t,” asks Sims, Mayoral Candidate for Surrey Forward. “This serves as an example of the worst type of corruption at city hall – corruption that benefits the holder of elected office. I would say I am disappointed, but the fact is I’m not even surprised.”

SURREY – Jinny Sims and Surrey Forward brought bombshell allegations in the dying days of the campaign, saying Surrey mayor Doug McCallum has been found to have renovated his own home without permits.
Sims said in a press release that the work proceeded this year after permits were sought but ultimately not approved.
“Mayor McCallum has subverted the system that every resident and property owner in Surrey is expected to follow. This is made worse by the fact that his home is historic. This means that by renovating his home without a permit, Mayor McCallum has ignored the historic preservation and renovation requirements in Surrey,” Surrey Forward said in a press release.
“How can we expect the average property owner in Surrey to follow the laws when their Mayor doesn’t,” asks Sims, Mayoral Candidate for Surrey Forward. “This serves as an example of the worst type of corruption at city hall – corruption that benefits the holder of elected office.
