CHANDIGARH – According to reports out of Punjab and Delhi, police have tracked down the murder vehicles and allegedly arrested some of the actual killers, the men who opened fire and killed Punjabi gangster-rapper and renowned lyricist Sidhu Moosewala on Sunday, coincidentally choosing May 29 or 29/5 which resembled the world famous rapper’s last album title of 295.

Thirty bullets were fired from AK-94 and AK-47 automatic assault rifles at Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala who was shot dead in Punjab on Sunday.

Police said Monday that a suspected killer involved in the gunning down Moosewala, who had also joined politics but lost on the Punjab Congress ticket, was caught by a joint team of the Punjab and Uttrakhand police from Dehradun.

He had hidden himself by mingling with the pilgrims proceeding for the Hemkunth Sahib Yatra to a Gurudwara in the mountains.

Police said he owes allegiance to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has publicly taken responsibility for the murder, and is being brought to Punjab.

Police also said as many as five more suspects linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have also been detained from Dehradun and are being brought to Punjab for the senseless murder of Moosewala.

Punjab police have recovered the Balero jeep and Corolla car used by the assailants in the crime from Bathinda.

According to the police, Moosewala who was travelling in his Thar jeep with two friends, when he was attacked by 8 assailants following him in two Bolero jeeps and a Corolla car. Thirty rounds were fired from AK-94 and AK-47 assault rifles at the singer and four bullets hit him. He was rushed to the civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. One of his friends who was injured in the attack died later.

Punjabi film actor Kartar Cheema, who authorities claimed is a close accomplice of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar who claimed responsibility for the murder of the Punjabi rapper was arrested by the police in Amritsar in a different case.

Cheema was on Monday detained by the Civil Lines police here after NSUI president Akshay Kumar accused him of issuing threats through gangster Goldy Brar.

Akshay Kumar claimed that he had given Rs 25 lakh to Kartar Cheema on loan which the latter did not return.

He alleged that Cheema through gangster Goldy Brar had issued him death threats saying not a single rupee would be returned.

But Cheema told the media that police and Kumar were lying and that he did not have any association with Brar or any other gangster and was being wrongly linked with criminals.

“I’m not associated with any gangster, in fact I’m the victim of gangsterism, police brutality and high-handedness. I’ve given my side of the story to police to verify and the truth will come out,” Cheema told a throng of reporters in Amristar.

Cheema said he owed no money to Kumar, who had invested five lakh (500,000 rupees) into the Punjabi film Sikander, starring Cheema. The film had not done well and in fact, it suffered losses which Kumar needed to make up but instead he was making accusations against the actor.

The Punjab police had on Saturday reduced the security of Moosewala from four commandos to two but at the time of the incident, none of the gunmen were accompanying him. Sidhu Moosewala also possessed a private bulletproof Fortuner but was not traveling in it.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) V.K Bhawra said that Sidhu's manager Shaganpreet Singh, who had escaped to Australia, was involved in the killing of Vicky Middhu Khera, a youth Akali leader in August last year.

Middhu Khera was linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and had been shot dead in Sector 71 of Mohali by sharpshooters of the Bambiha gang. Moosewala was accused by Lawrence Bishnoi of helping Shaganpreet to escape to Australia.

Hours after Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead, Delhi Police said it suspect that the murder of the renowned Punjabi singer could be a result of the killing of Vikramjit alias Vicky Middukhera.

According to the Delhi police special cell, Sidhu Moose Wala and his manager Shaganpreet were involved in the murder of Vicky in August, 2021. Shagunpreet had fled to Australia.

The Delhi police Special Cell recently got aware of the nexus of notorious gangster Neeraj Bawania and Tillu Tajpuria. Bawania and Tajpuria teamed up with different gangsters Kaushal Chaudhary, Davinder Bhambia, and Lucky Patial from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Bhawra said the killing seemed to be the result of an inter-gang rivalry and that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was involved in it. "The culprits will be arrested soon and justice will be delivered," the DGP said.

So far, Delhi police special cell has arrested three shooters identified as Sunny, Anil Lath and Bholu -- all residents of Haryana -- in connection with the murder of Middukhera, while Shaganpreet was named as accused in the FIR registered in this case.

A three-member SIT has also been constituted by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bathinda Range, Pardeep Yadav to ensure effective and speedy investigation of the murder.

Reports said that Vicky was a close friend of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who is serving time in jail in Bharatpur, Rajasthan since 2017 for various crimes.

Meanwhile, Balkaur Singh, father of Sidhu Moosewala wrote to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann demanding a CBI and NIA investigation of his son's death.

News agency ANI quoted its sources saying that Sidhu Moosewala's death plot might have links to Delhi's Tihar Jail. "A phone number has been traced to the jail, in this connection. Few days ago, a criminal namely Shahrukh was arrested by police. He was using a messaging app to communicate with gangster Goldy Brar."

Delhi police special cell is questioning Lawrence Bishnoi and his aides, and Kala Jathedi and Kala Rana in connection with Moosewala's murder.

The Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has ordered an inquiry into the decision to reduce security of Sidhu Moosewala. "Punjab government will fully cooperate in the investigation, no culprit will be spared," Mann added.

The Punjab DGP, on Sunday, said 30 empty bullet shells have been recovered and at least three weapons like 9 mm and 455 bore appeared to have been used in the crime.

Moosewala left his house around 4:30 pm along with Gurwinder Singh (neighbour) and Gurpreet Singh (cousin). The singer was driving the vehicle. Police informed that when Moosewala reached Jawahar Ke village, they were followed by a car and were intercepted from the front by two vehicles.
