A racist tirade recorded in an Abbotsford parking lot is now being investigated by a police hate crime unit. Footage shows him shouting a variety of obscenities and slurs, at one point yelling “white power, motherfucker” while leaning out of the passenger-side door of a black pickup truck.ABBOTSFORD – The racist who yelled profanities at an Indo-Canadian man in an Abbotsford parking lot is known to Abbotsford police.

The racist man, who mentioned White Power, was caught on camera spewing racial taunts last week and is now facing potential charges.

Abbotsford police confirmed Monday they’re already familiar with him.

The tense confrontation started after the man was handed a $110 parking ticket last Friday near Pauline Street and South Fraser Way.

Footage shows him shouting a variety of obscenities and slurs, at one point yelling “white power, motherfucker” while leaning out of the passenger-side door of a black pickup truck.

Ravi Duhra, who filmed the incident, said the man had threatened a parking lot enforcement officer before he started recording his behaviour.

Duhra originally pulled out his phone to take a picture of the truck’s licence plate, but started filming when the man approached him.

“I was initially shocked. Like, I didn’t think he was going to be so aggressive,” Duhra told CTV News.

The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, was recorded walking up to Duhra and demanding to know when he came to Canada.

After learning Duhra was born in the country, the man replies “When did you learn not to mind your own business?”

After screaming loudly at Duhra from close range, the man states that he is not threatening anyone, then continues to call out racial slurs until he leaves the parking lot.

On Monday, the Abbotsford Police Department confirmed it has contacted the B.C. Hate Crime Unit for guidance in its investigation.

The man in the footage is known to police, but has yet to be interviewed in connection with last Friday’s incident.

Duhra said if nothing else, the footage sheds light on a dark part of society that some people rarely see.

“There are people like this out there and if you don’t get it exposed to it, if you don’t see it, you tend to think it doesn’t happen,” he said.
