NORTH DELTA – While the shooting rampage that had plagued the Surrey-North-Delta area had died down lately but another near deadly shooting in broad daylight Monday in the old Surrey-Delta Punjabi market area sent one Indo-Canadian man to hospital.
Police are investigating after officers found the 25-year-old victim wounded while responding to a report of shots fired near Scott Road and 92 Avenue around 11:15 a.m.
Authorities haven’t confirmed how many times the man was shot, but said his injuries were inflicted to his lower body, and they are not believed to be life-threatening.
The circumstances that led up to the shooting haven’t been confirmed, as the victim has not been cooperating, but police said it was targeted.
No arrests have been made but a suspect vehicle, described as a dark import, was seen fleeing the area northbound on 120 Street.
Those northbound lanes were temporarily closed to traffic Monday morning while police examined the scene and canvassed for witnesses.
The suspect’s vehicle, described as “a dark smaller import,” was seen heading from the shooting northbound on 120th Street.
“This is a daytime shooting so … that is concerning for us with respect to public safety,” said Sharlene Brooks of the Delta Police Department.
“We’ve got several police officers in and around the area.”
Brooks did not know if the shooting was targeted and said police have not yet identified a suspect.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Delta police at 604-946-4411, or if they wish to stay anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
