A well known drug trafficker has been identified as the man shot dead in a Surrey shooting on Monday. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim as 28-year-old Mohamed Abdulrahman Mohamed, who was killed in a targeted shooting in Surrey. Police said they are seeking public assistance. Mohamed was from Surrey and was known to police. While still early in the investigation, homicide investigators are able to confirm that this shooting was targeted, but not connected to any other recent shootings.  IHIT investigators are able to confirm that Mohamed was involved in drug trafficking but unable to confirm any gang-nexus at this time.

SURREY - A well known drug trafficker has been identified as the man shot dead in a Surrey shooting on Monday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim as 28-year-old Mohamed Abdulrahman Mohamed, who was killed in a targeted shooting in Surrey. Police said they are seeking public assistance.

On July 4, at around 5:00 p.m., the Surrey RCMP responded to 911 calls of shots fired at the parking lot of the Days Inn Hotel near the 13300-block of King George Boulevard. First Responders arrived and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted life-saving intervention but the victim died at scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called to investigate.

Police said to further identify witnesses and associates, they released the name of the victim.  Mohamed was from Surrey and was known to police. While still early in the investigation, homicide investigators are able to confirm that this shooting was targeted, but not connected to any other recent shootings.  IHIT investigators are able to confirm that Mohamed was involved in drug trafficking but unable to confirm any gang-nexus at this time.

Shortly after the shooting occurred, a vehicle was found on fire in an alleyway in the 12400-block of 96 Avenue in Surrey. Homicide investigators have linked this vehicle fire to the shooting at the Days Inn Hotel. Both scenes have been processed and items were collected for forensic exam. Canvassing for witnesses and CCTV is continuing.

IHIT is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service. Homicide investigators are also in contact with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC) for timely sharing of intelligence and assistance where required.

 “Regardless of Mohamed’s alleged activities or associations, his life was taken from him,” said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, “our investigators are committed to resolving this homicide and are seeking public assistance.”

IHIT is seeking witnesses in the area of the Days Inn at 13373 King George Boulevard who may have information about this shooting. IHIT is also interested in dashcam in the areas around the Days Inn and the burned vehicle at 124 Street and 96 Avenue on July 4, 2022 around 5 p.m.
