Surrey MLA Jinny Sims presented Toor the original copy of the Proclamation “Komagata Maru Day of Remembrance” on Friday.

SURREY - BC Government has declared and Proclaimed May 23, 2024 , as a “ Komagata Maru Day of Remembrance” in the Province of British Columbia on my request of the Descendants of the Komagata Maru Society, said spokesperson Raj Singh Toor, the grandson of one of the passengers on the Komagata Maru.

Surrey MLA Jinny Sims presented Toor the original copy of the Proclamation “Komagata Maru Day of Remembrance” on Friday.

“I would like thank the BC government and Jinny Sims Proclaimed and presented me a original copy of the May 23, 2024 as a “Komagata Maru Day of Remembrance “ in the Province of British Columbia,” Toor told DESIBUZZCanada.

“This recognition by the Province of British Columbia is a great tribute to those passengers who suffered a lot during the tragedy. We can’t undo the past but we can move forward and leave a legacy for the future generations by educating them about the past”
