WHITE ROCK – The same black suspect who was charged with stabbing an Indo-Canadian man in the neck on the White Rock pier has now been also charged with the murder of Kulwinder Singh Sohi.
Sohi’s murder has shocked the local community as well as the large Indo-Canadian community in Surrey which regularly visit the scenic pier. Both Sohi and the stabbing victim Jatinder Singh are from Surrey.
Recently there was a large community gathering along with police in White Rock to seek justice for both victims, especially the young Sohi who unnecessary lost his life.
Twenty-eight-year old Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth from Surrey has been charged with Sohi’s murder as well as Singh’s brutal stabbing.
On April 23, the White Rock RCMP responded to a report of injured man in the 15400-block of Marine Drive. Officers along with BC Ambulance Emergency Health Services attended and upon arrival, located a 26-year old Sohi, on the White Rock Promenade at the parking lot adjacent to the Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles (Pa-Kwach-Tun) Memorial Plaza, suffering from fatal stab wounds.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely in partnership with the White Rock RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.
On April 29, IHIT investigators arrested Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth from Surrey, who, on April 30 was subsequently charged in relation to the aggravated assault of Jatinder Singh on April 21, 2024.
After tireless work in coordination with many policing partners, IHIT is now announcing that on May 3, Hyacinth was charged with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide of Kulwinder Singh Sohi.
“These events have had a significant impact on a community,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “I hope that today’s announcement provides a further sense of relief to those who frequent the White Rock promenade.”
IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone who may have information regarding the homicide to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
