SURREY - The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is urging witnesses to come forward following a fatal stabbing of a 45-year-old man in Surrey, Thursday night.
On August 18, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Surrey Detachment responded to the report of a stabbing near 184 Street and Fraser Highway. Frontline officers arrived on scene and located the victim suffering from serious injuries.
It is alleged the confrontation between the victim and a female occurred on a transit bus. It is believed the victim exited the bus at 184th Street and Fraser Highway and was confronted by a group of youths and then fatally stabbed.
“We are thankful that a motorist, who witnessed the incident, stopped and called 911. This resulted in a quick response by police and emergency health services, unfortunately, the victim later succumbed to his injuries at hospital,” says IHIT Media Relations Officer, Detective Sukhi Dhesi.
IHIT is working closely in partnership with the Surrey Detachment, BC Coroners Service and the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) canvassing the area, collecting evidence and identifying witnesses.
With assistance from the Integrated Police Dog Service, one individual was taken into custody shortly after the incident, who since has been released.
“We also want to appeal to those people who may have been part of the group and were witnesses to the incident to come forward,” says Det. Dhesi.
IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone with dash camera video who were in the area of 184 Street and Fraser Highway between 9:50 p.m and 10:30 p.m. on August 18, 2022, to please contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
