Conservatives Accuse Trudeau Of Turning Canada Into Safe Haven For Extortionists
- July 8, 2024
The Pierre Poilievre-led Conservatives are accusing the Justin Trudeau government of making Canada a safe haven for extortionists, something many in the Indo-Canadian community agree on as most if nearly all the arrested and charged extortionists have come from India, who came here on Liberal government’s out of control Student Visa program or are Indo-Canadians working with India-based criminals to partake in this crime racket. Conservatives said in a press release Monday that after nine years, Justin Trudeau’s Government is failing to keep Canadians safe. “Since Trudeau became Prime Minister, extortion is up 218 percent across Canada while violent crime has risen by 39 percent,” they said in a press release. Many prominent Indo-Canadian businessmen have become targets of these criminals with ongoing extortion threats and some have been murdered including an Indo-Canadian builder in Edmonton.

OTTAWA – The Pierre Poilievre-led Conservatives are accusing the Justin Trudeau government of making Canada a safe haven for extortionists, something many in the Indo-Canadian community agree on as most if nearly all the arrested and charged extortionists have come from India, who came here on Liberal government’s out of control Student Visa program or are Indo-Canadians working with India-based criminals to partake in this crime racket.
Conservatives said in a press release Monday that after nine years, Justin Trudeau’s Government is failing to keep Canadians safe.
“Since Trudeau became Prime Minister, extortion is up 218 percent across Canada while violent crime has risen by 39 percent,” they said in a press release.
“This is happening because the Liberal Government made it easier for gangsters and extortionists to get out of jail and re-offend. They did this by passing Bill C-5, which eliminated mandatory jail time for committing extortion with a firearm, and by passing Bill C-75, which makes it easier for repeat offenders to get back onto our streets.
“The disastrous consequences of the Liberals' reckless policies was evident again on Friday when the Peel Regional Police arrested five people, including a Brampton resident who was out on bail, as well as Arundeep Thind, who was charged of assault and extortion. This is the second time this year that Thind has been charged with extortion.”
Conservatives say Canadians shouldn’t have to live like this.
“Trudeau’s reckless approach to extortion has unleashed crime and chaos in our once-peaceful towns and suburbs. That’s why Common Sense Conservatives introduced Bill C-381, the Protection Against Extortion Act, which would’ve kept extortionists and gangsters off our streets for longer by strengthening mandatory prison time,” the press release said.
“Unfortunately, the Liberal-NDP coalition voted against this bill allowing extortionists back into our communities. Canadians now know that only a Common Sense Conservative Government will bring home safe streets by delivering jail, not bail for violent repeat offenders.”
Many prominent Indo-Canadian businessmen have become targets of these criminals with ongoing extortion threats and some have been murdered including an Indo-Canadian builder in Edmonton.
