VANCOUVER – Deceased Indo-Canadian lumber mogul Asa Johal’s family will match up to $1 million in donations to the BC Cancer Foundation, the Foundation announced Monday.
Johal’s son and daughter-in-law Darcy and Manjit Johal said they are honouring the legacy of Darcy’s father by generously matching donations until October 31.
Asa – a leader in the Indo-Canadian community who passed away last year – was a generous supporter of BC Cancer’s work. He lived by the principles of working hard and giving back to his community, values that Darcy and Manjit maintain and instill in the younger generations of their family.
This donation is in support of the Foundation’s recently announced $500 million fundraising campaign to advance cancer research and enhance care across British Columbia. The Johals hope their matching gift offer will inspire British Columbians to be as generous as they feel they can be in supporting this campaign.
“We want to help BC Cancer make cutting-edge care a reality for every person in our province. Please join us in supporting this historic campaign at this critical moment in time,” said Darcy and Manjit Johal.
The Johals know personally how critical it is that cancer care in British Columbia is enhanced and expanded. Asa was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1996 and Darcy has faced a more recent diagnosis.
