A 21-year-old Indian student or immigrant from India has been charged with assaulting five children at an Edmonton daycare where she worked. Navam Sharma, an employee of the Sherwood Park daycare, has been charged with five counts of assault. She has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.

EDMONTON – A 21-year-old Indian student or immigrant from India has been charged with assaulting five children at an Edmonton daycare where she worked.

Navam Sharma, an employee of the Sherwood Park daycare, has been charged with five counts of assault.

She has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.

Police say none of the children were seriously injured.

Mounties received a complaint of one assault at Emerald Park Daycare on Pembina Road on April 3.

An investigation led to the discovery of the other victims.

Strathcona County RCMP received a complaint of an assault which is alleged to have occurred at Emerald Park Daycare in Sherwood Park, Alta. Strathcona County General Investigative Section (GIS) was called in to investigate, and to date, five victims between the ages of 5 and 8 years old have been identified. 

The assaults occurred between March 17, 2025 and April 3, 2025. No serious injuries reported or medical attention required as a result of the incidents.
