SURREY – Is there a concerted effort on the part of anti-Sikh forces or hateful individuals who have recently directed attacks and violence within the Surrey-based Dashmesh Darbar Gurdwara premises.

There was an attack by a violent Hindu man who came into the Gurdwara and refused to cover his head and shouting anti-Sikh slogans. The unnamed man allegedly rushed towards the Guru Granth Sahib but was tackled by worshippers and management was summoned.

A similar incident took place at the traditional Sikh Gurdwara just few weeks ago and the Dashmesh Darbar Gurdwara management suspects that this is not merely the case of a mentally ill person but a deliberate attempt to create disruption by anti-Sikh forces.

The management is worried that if, in the future, any member of the congregation reacted strongly, it could be used to defame the Sikh community. And they are asking the community and police to be vigilant and stop these organized attacks at the temple.

According to an eyewitness, videos related to the Hindu-Sikh tensions in Toronto from a few months ago were found on man’s phone. Additionally, his phone revealed that he was part of some provocative WhatsApp groups.

The man reportedly stated at the scene that someone had sent him there with instructions to create a disturbance so that the Sikhs would harm him, making him a "martyr" for Hindus. Many witnesses were present during this statement.

According to an eyewitness, he repeated the same statement to the police.

Devotees and management want Police need to take urgent action to curb these attacks and violence against a Sikh place of worship.
