On Friday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) released photos of who they believe is a suspect in Bhangu's killing and they are asking for the public’s assistance with identifying and locating a suspect.
“Mr. [Birinderjeet] Bhangu was known to police and evidence collected suggests this was a targeted homicide. Anyone who may have information about Mr. Bhangu’s murder is asked to contact police.” Cpl. Meghan FOSTER of IHIT says, “This blatant act of violence was committed in a busy area of the community, and fortunately no one else was hurt.”
SURREY — Well known Indo-Canadian gangster from Surrey is the latest to be killed in a hail of bullets as there seems to be open season on desi Gangsters with two killed in Vancouver last week.
Birinderjeet Justin Bhangu, 29, is Surrey's third homicide victim this year. His murder follows the murders of well known gangster Navdip Singh Sanghera, 32, who was killed along with Harjit Singh Mann, 49, when ther white seadan was sprayed by gunfire about 9:30 p.m. on East 31st Avenue near Ross Street last Friday.
On Friday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) released photos of who they believe is a suspect in Bhangu's killing and they are asking for the public’s assistance with identifying and locating a suspect.
Bhangu, who was from Surrey, was found in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn Hotel, in the 8200-block of 166th Street, at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. He had been shot.
Surrey RCMP and the Surrey Fire Department attended and made all efforts to save Bhangu, however, he was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased shortly after.
Bhangu is known to police and, while a motive hasn’t been confirmed, it is believed that this shooting was as a result of his criminal lifestyle.

“Members of the community, the general public and even those entrenched in this lifestyle themselves should be outraged by the arrogance and inhumanity that was exhibited on this day. This was a shooting in broad daylight in an area where families and community members frequent. For this, we need anyone with information about this individual to come forward, “says S/Sgt. Jennifer Pound.
"Mr. Bhangu was known to police and evidence collected suggests this was a targeted homicide," said Corporal Meghan Foster, spokeswoman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. "This blatant act of violence was committed in a busy area of the community and fortunately no one else was hurt."
Witnesses told CTV Vancouver up to five gunshots rang out, and that they saw officers performing CPR at the scene a short time later.
Foster said police are looking for a dark coloured Nissan Pathfinder that took off from the scene. Police ask anyone with information to contact the IHIT tips line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
