VPD Charge Suspect In Vancouver’s First Homicide In 2024

Vancouver Police have charged a man in the first homicide of 2024 in the City. Dwight William Kematch, 39, has been charged in the death of a man in East Vancouver Sunday morning, as Vancouver Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the homicide.

VANCOUVER – Vancouver Police have charged a man in the first homicide of 2024 in the City.
Dwight William Kematch, 39, has been charged in the death of a man in East Vancouver Sunday morning, as Vancouver Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the homicide.
Kematch is now charged with second-degree murder, and remains in custody.
VPD responded around 1 a.m. Sunday to a 9-1-1 call from a home near Knight Street and East 33rd Avenue. Police officers arrested the suspect inside the home, where the deceased victim was also discovered.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Alexander Lo of Vancouver.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by VPD’s homicide unit.
