- January 12, 2020
The Indo-Canadian woman from Toronto, whose known to the gangster Punjabi rapper, filed a complaint against Sidhu Moose Wala, aka Shubhdeep Singh for allegedly ‘issuing phone threats’. It is not known whether she intends to file a complaint against the violence-prone singer in Canada or plans to do so when she gets back home in Canada. In the summer of 2019, Moose Wala — who is known for fusing hip-hop and Punjabi beats with macho bravado lyrics that sometimes glorify violence — was scheduled to perform at the South Asian music, art, film, and fashion event called 5X in Surrey but his appearance was yanked after police had concerns about attendees’ safety. Earlier in 2019, there was a stabbing at the Moose Wala’s concert in Surrey and shots were fired at his show in Calgary.

TORONTO – Canada-based Punjabi gangster rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who has a history of violence at his live shows, has been accused by an Indo-Canadian woman from Toronto, who claims she was in a relationship with the singer-rapper whose real name is Shubhdeep Singh.
The unnamed woman contacted the NRI police station in Moga, saying her life was in danger as was the safety of her family.
The Indo-Canadian woman from Toronto filed a complaint against Sidhu Moose Wala for allegedly ‘issuing phone threats’.
It is not known whether she intends to file a complaint against the violence-prone singer in Canada or plans to do so when she gets back to her home in Toronto.
In the complaint, the woman also claims danger to her life and that of her family from the popular Punjabi singer.
The woman, a Canadian citizen and also native of Moga, said in her complaint to police that Sidhu Moose Wala had come to Canada in 2017 as a student and they became friends. Soon their families also got to know each other and they had good family relations, reported the Express newspaper in India.
The woman further claimed that a few years later Moose Wala’s parents also reached Canada and there were talks of their marriage. However, it did not materialize. She also claims in the complaint that many a times she helped Moose Wala financially. However, their relations got strained and they stopped seeing each other.
The threats, she says began recently when she visited India and began getting threatening phone calls. She told police that Moose Wala can harm her and her family.
Police confirmed that the Indo-Canadian woman has filed the complaint. Harjinder Kaur, SHO NRI police station Moga, said that the complainant woman is married and she has also submitted an international phone number alleging she is getting threats from it.
“The number is of England. She has alleged that Moose Wala had met her in Canada in 2017 and he was then a student. She also claims that she helped him financially and later there were talks of them getting married but they did not materialize. Relations between families strained and now she is being threatened. She has apprehended danger to her life and to her family from Moose Wala. We are probing the complaint,” said SHO.
Kaur added that both the sides have been called to present their sides of the matter and Moose Wala has been contacted on phone. “His father is in touch us and he has denied of the phone number being theirs. We have also called Moose Wala to record his statement,” she added.
The controversial Sidhu Moose Wala, who hails from Moosa of Mansa, had run into more trouble for allegedly misusing the name of 18th century Sikh warrior Mai Bhago in his track ‘Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi’. The Sikh body Shriomani Akali Dal and other Sikh bodies had demanded his arrest for hurting Sikh sentiments and disrespecting Mai Bhago. Moosewala apologized later saying that he had ‘no intention to disrespect Mai Bhago’ or to ‘offend anyone’.
Back in his adopted home in Canada, Moosewala’s shows were criticized for creating violence and bringing out bad elements and not taking responsibility for the ongoing violence at his live shows.

Earlier in 2019, there was a stabbing at the Moosewala’s concert in Surrey and shots were fired at his show in Calgary.
At the time, some in the community took issue with 5X Festival for booking Moosewala in the first place given that many of his shows have led to violence.
“These guys (5X Festival) are getting a lot of public-arts money to put this event on for South Asian youngsters and the message they are sending out is that they are okay with Punjabi gangster-rappers-singers like Moosewala. We are trying to stop gang violence and violent behaviour in our community and this is not how public funds should be spent,” said one angry community leader, who wanted to remain anonymous.
