Dave Berar, who has been with Surrey’s bylaw department since 1996 and serves on the Surrey Outreach Team, received the 2017 Career Achievement Award during the organization’s annual awards ceremony, held in Surrey last week.

SURREY — A long-time Indo-Canadian Surrey bylaw officer has been honoured as a “true professional” and “extraordinary role model” by the License Inspectors’ and Bylaw Officers’ Association of B.C. (LIBOA).

Dave Berar, who is an integral part of the Surrey Outreach Team on 135A Street, received the 2017 Career Achievement Award during the organization’s annual awards ceremony, held in Surrey last week, reported Surrey-Now-Leader newspaper.

“Dave is clearly an outstanding professional, mentor and leader to those not only in the bylaw community, but countless staff at the City of Surrey,” said Steffan Zamzow, vice president of LIBOA.

“Dave has been a shining example of how teamwork can provide a seamless integration between departments, all in an effort to get things done. He endlessly works with the City of Surrey’s engineering and parks departments, Surrey RCMP and community groups, all in order to alleviate concerns related to issues throughout the community.”

Berar began his career with the City of Surrey in 1996 as a parking enforcement officer. He has since taken on a number of roles ranging from general duty to his most current as a bylaw enforcement supervisor. He has also led a number of presentations and educational seminars.

Zamzow said Berar “demonstrates a high level of integrity and civility.”

“Dave has recruited and nurtured numerous staff throughout his career and has shaped many staff to move on to leadership roles themselves,” he added. Berar is also an active volunteer in in the community, helping to raise funds, food and clothing for the homeless.
