Vancouver’s Punjabi Market Collective Looking For New Board Members

VANCOUVER – The Punjabi Market Collective—serving the historic Punjabi Market in South Vancouver—is looking for passionate leaders to join their board. Open positions include: Treasurer, Secretary, Creative Director, Marketing Director, Director of Fundraising, Director of Internal Culture and Member at Large.

The Punjabi Market Collective is a group of passionate advocates, artists and entrepreneurs who are working towards revitalizing Punjabi Market by beautifying the market, developing and promoting businesses and creating a hub for arts and culture. After a successful two years since becoming a registered non-profit, the Collective is looking for passionate leaders to help take the work into the future. In 2021, they worked with a number of organizations including the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Mural Festival, United Way of British Columbia, Indian Summer Festival and South Asian Arts Society.
Mission:
*To build a more resilient and inclusive urban community by preserving the cultural heritage and history of the Punjabi Market neighbourhood situated on Main Street in Vancouver, British Columbia (the "Punjabi Market") between 48th and 51st Avenues, while acknowledging its location on unceded Indigenous territories and supporting its regeneration as a cultural destination for diverse residents and visitors;
*To build a more resilient and inclusive urban community by preserving cultural histories and restoring cultural spaces of Vancouver's Punjabi Market;
*To encourage and promote new, emerging, and established businesses and community spaces in the Punjabi Market;
*To research, report, and undertake studies of, and advance any project, plan, or improvement designed to benefit the Punjabi Market and those visiting the Punjabi Market;
*To identify economic revitalization actions, with a focus on business and non-profit attraction, retention, and expansion, as well as community-strengthening actions, with a focus on decolonization, equity, and sustainability, for the Punjabi Market and the surrounding neighborhoods;
*To undertake actions, programs, and partnerships that support economic revitalization, community cohesion, and environmental stewardship in relation to the Punjabi Market and the surrounding neighborhoods; and,
*To support femmes, women, and children through economic, business, social, political actions.
