VANCOUVER - Charges have been approved by the BC Prosecution Service against a Vancouver man following a Vancouver Police investigation into a murder last July in South Vancouver.
Officers responded to 9-1-1 calls about shots being fired near Main Street and East 48th Avenue on July 13, 2020. Amin Shahin Shakur, 30, was found dead at the scene.
Mohammed Abu-Sharife, 41, has been charged with second degree murder.
Abu-Sharife will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
Amin Shahin Shakur, who died after being gunned down in South Vancouver, was a popular and likeable man and a vigil is being held in Richmond following his death.
Shakur didn’t have an extensive police history, according to the VPD. Nearby residents told the media they heard “four loud pops” shortly before Shakur was killed.
VPD said at the time Shakur’s murder appears to be targeted and there is no risk to the public.
