VANCOUVER – Charges have been laid against a woman in the death of a 16-month-old baby three years ago in Vancouver.

Macallan Saini, aka “Baby Mac”, died in January 2017 and charges were laid this week against 41-year-old Susy Yasmine Saad, following a Vancouver Police investigation. Although Saini is an Indo-Canadian surname, it is now known if the father is full or part Indo-Canadian as the family appears to be white from the photos

“The details of this file are just gut-wrenching,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “Investigators have worked diligently since this terrible incident occurred to ensure the person accused would be held responsible.”

Saad appeared in court Wednesday where she was charged with two counts of ‘failure to provide necessaries of life’ and one count of fraud over $5,000.00.

Macallan Saini tragically died at an unlicensed and unregistered daycare in East Vancouver after he was found unresponsive in the playpen.

“As nothing can take away the pain of losing a child, we hope the family can find some closure knowing that charges have been laid,” adds Visintin.

Saad has been released on conditions and will appear in court in September.
