TORONTO - Two Indo-Canadian men have been charged after a robbery at Vaughan liquor store that netted a bag of alcohol at gunpoint.
Harmonjot Singh, 28, of Toronto, is charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance.
Inderjit Singh, 49, of Toronto, is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
On July 24 at 12:40 p.m., York Regional Police received a report of a robbery at the liquor store near Weston Road and Fieldstone Drive.
After attending, police were told a suspect Harmonjot Singh entered the store asked an employee for assistance to get merchandise.
After he filled a bag with alcohol, an employee asked him to pay before the suspect pointed a gun at them and left the store, police say.
Harmonjot Singh allegedly fled in a stolen silver Toyota prior to police arrival.
After a multi-unit investigation that also included Toronto Police Service, Harmonjot Singh was found in Toronto, at which point he allegedly got out of the Toyota and entered into a Hyundai that another man - Inderjit Singh - was driving.
The suspect and driver were followed into Peel Region and arrested.
Inderjit Singh was found to be wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for unrelated offences.
