Jaskaran Singh Aujla, or as he is known to his fans simply as ‘Karan Aujla’, has become the new King of Punjabi music and a super hit on youtube.  His style of music and new dimension of videos set on exotic locations has made him an international star to the tune of over 100 million views on youtube.  His latest song hit 69 million views in just 4 weeks.

SURREY - Great talent has emerged from BC over the years and many of them became international stars. Harbhajan Mann, and Gippy Grewal just to name a few have all made it big in the Punjabi music industry.

Recently, a new star has emerged in Punjabi music star Jaskaran Singh Aujla, aka Karan Aujla.  Just a few years ago, the up and coming aspiring seventeen year old songwriter from Burnaby was profiled by DESIBUZZCanada founder-editor R. Paul Dhillon.  After getting a taste of success, with hits recorded by Jassi Gill “Range” and Gagan Kokri “Blessings of Bapu”, the young man took a big leap into singing.

The initial start was sluggish but once the locomotive took off there was no stopping it. He has recorded hit after hit.

Aujla, now a sensation in the Punjabi music industry was struggling just five years ago.  He was having a challenging time with school at Burnaby South. His passion for music and a dream of becoming a star put his school work on the back burners.  This caused grief for his teachers and family. Having a passion for music and big dreams was great and they fully supported him but they worried. Therefore, they encouraged him to get educated and have a means to earn a living.  Unfortunately, their convincing fell short.

However, something amazing happened, in a very short span of time this young man has attained a level of success un-imaginable.

Aujla, or as he is known to his fans simply as ‘Karan Aujla’, has become the new King of Punjabi music and a super hit on youtube.  His style of music and new dimension of videos set on exotic locations has made him an international star to the tune of over 100 million views on youtube.  His latest song hit 69 million views in just 4 weeks.

Aujla celebrated his twenty third birthday last month while on tour in India.  Five years ago he had all the obstacles stacked against him. He took whatever heavy labor jobs his friends could hook him up with.  Not afraid of work or embarrassment he even hit the blueberry fields in Abbotsford one summer, when he was in grade 11, just to earn some cash.

The same work ethic and commitment of working long hard hours has allowed him to record many songs thus resulting in tours to the US, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait, Thailand and recently a performance in England in front of over 17,000 fans.  His current Indian tour is solidly booked and he has performed to over 18,000 fans.

One of the reasons for Aujla’s success could be attributed to the hardships experienced during childhood.  He lost his father to a motorcycle accident when he was eight and then his mother to cancer at twelve. He writes all of his music and the depth of the lyrics reflect the many realities of life and the truth digs deep resulting in hit after hit thus giving him the nickname of “the song machine”.  There is something for everyone and even big Bollywood stars have become his fans.

From being a no-body just five years ago to international stardom and being the centre of attention is quite overwhelming. However, with all the adulation there is still a void.  This was created by the passing of his parents. He keeps them close to his heart and has both of his parents images tattooed on both arms. No doubt they would have been very proud of their little boy that loved riding on his Dad’s motorcycle and all he really wanted was to be a great soccer player.

The rest is just a dream, a dream that has obviously, just begun.
