Should Jimmy Sheirgill Stop Starring In Punjabi Films After Another Massive Failure?
- May 16, 2016
Jimmy Sheirgill’s latest film Vaisakhi list, a prison break comedy with Jaswinder Bhalla and co-starring Sunil Grover (Guthi from the old Comedy Nights With Kapil), failed to click in the main overseas centers of Australia, New Zealand where it made a paltry $5418 over it’s first three days and in the UK just $17,744 from 12 screens.

SURREY – Bollywood and Punjabi film star Jimmy Sheirgill will need to re-evaluate his Punjabi film career after another massive flop with Vaisakhi List.
While Punjabi superstars Diljit Dosanjh and Amrinder Gill are thriving at the worldwide Punjabi film boxoffice, Sheirgill , an actor with some real acting chops and numerous Bollywood and Punjabi film credits, is dying at the Punjabi film box-office with consecutive poorly received films.
Sheirgill’s latest film Vaisakhi list, a prison break comedy with Jaswinder Bhalla and co-starring Sunil Grover (Guthi from the old Comedy Nights With Kapil), failed to click in the main overseas centers of Australia, New Zealand where it made a paltry $5418 over it’s first three days and in the UK just $17,744 from 12 screens.
Reports are similarly bad from Punjab-India territories and North America, where the numbers are no where near the recently released Love Punjab starring Amrinder Gill or even Diljit Dosanjh’s critically-panned Ambarsariya, which still made close to Rs. 10 crore in just India.
Even Gippy Grewal directed Ardass found an audience overseas and in India after many of Grewal starring films also failed. May be it was the reason he went behind the camera but he has Kaptaan coming up which should be a test to see whether the market for his own films is still there.
Sheirgill is rumoured to be shooting another Punjabi film in Calgary this summer co-starring Neeru Bajwa but the producers might have to rethink their budget and salary to the stars as the market for both stars has fallen steeply.
On the Bollywood front, Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan has again passed the $10 million plus total Overseas.
This is the tenth Shah Rukh Khan film to cross $10 million Overseas. In total, 21 films have crossed $10 million so almost half the $10 million plus grossers are Shahrukh Khan starrers.
Other SRK films that have crossed $10 million are Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Om Shanti Om, My Name Is Khan, Ra. One, Don 2, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Dilwale. The Worldwide total of Fan is over 175 crore.
