Filmmaker and veteran stuntman Bruce Fontaine was in full indie spirit at the premiere of his long awaited actioner Ruthless Bastards recently at the Cineplex in Richmond with a large turnout out of cast, crew and his well wishers, all treated to some great action flare that Bruce is known for as he’s been at this game for a long time with much time spent in Asia making karate-chop films with the likes of all the top Asian action greats including people like Jackie Chan.

The film is led by American action duo of Casper Van Dien and Sean Patrick Flanery as two aging hitmen, crime specialists who are uniting after a long while that has left a bitter taste in their relationship but for the sake of a big payday they must put aside their petty squabbles like a long married couple for a big payday.

Fontaine has created a multicultural local scene of criminals, everyone from Asian, Russian and South Asian gangsters all looking to carve out their territories for big drug profits.

The South Asian contingent of big and small gangsters are led by ruthless but academically inclined Sunny Gill played by Punjabi music and film star Parmish Verma, who delivers a good outing as a tough as nails gangster with a final showdown designed to showcase his star status.

Verma is surrounded by the very capable actress Hasleen Kaur, who has done a number of films and series in India including South as well as appearing on Netflix shows. She holds her own well among a sea of brutal men as a calm and cool enforcer.

Punjabi music producer and actor Harj Nagra also shows depth and skill to his character of being Sunny Gill’s right hand man.

The film is intended for the action genre fans even though it has a fair amount of comic relief and those fans will find Ruthless Bastards well worth their time.
