CHANDIGARH – Punjab deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday launched a song and video called ‘Lalkar’ (‘challenge’) to counter the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) track ‘Nasha’ (about intoxicants) launched last month. On YouTube, however, only a teaser was available until Tuesday night, and the full song is likely to be out within this week.
‘Lalkar’, also spelt ‘Lalkaar’ in the video teaser, is backed by the SAD wing Student Organisation of India (SOI) that has termed it “a befitting reply to sung by one of the AAP leaders” Kumar Vishwas. It is sung by Meetpal Singh Dugri, SOI president for Malwa zone-3. Parmbans Singh Bunty Romana, state coordinator of SOI, was also present at the release. It glorifies Punjab’s history and culture with references to individuals.
“Lyricist Satta Gill in his song ‘Lalkar’ not only challenged AAP’s convener Arvind Kejriwal for misleading people through false propaganda,” read a press statement by the SAD, “but also launched frontal attack on… Kumar Vishwas for describing Punjabis as drug addict in his latest song.”
At the release, Sukhbir “dared the opposition parties to shed away misleading campaigns targeted to defame Punjab and Punjabis, and have some guts to compete the SAD-BJP alliance on its development agenda,” it further said. The SOI is planning to telecast the song on all Punjabi channels.
