SURREY – Police are searching for two teens who they described as South Asian after they allegedly stabbed a 13-year-old in the Newton area of Surrey.
Surrey RCMP said Friday they are investigating an altercation between a group of youths where a youth was stabbed and is requesting anyone with information to contact police.
Police are actively working to identify the two youth suspects who fled the area prior to police arrival. They are described as South Asian youths between the ages of 15-17 years old, one wearing a grey hoodie and the other wearing a black hoodie, both suspects were wearing covid masks. One of the suspects may have sustained superficial injures as a result of the altercation.
On September 15, at 6:54 p.m., Surrey RCMP received the report of a stabbing at a park located in the 6400-block of 123 Street. Police attended the area and located a youth suffering from a stab wound. The 13-year old was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be released from hospital today.
Frontline officers flooded the area and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service assisted in a ground search of the area. The suspects were not located, however a knife was recovered in the area. Further work will be required to determine if this is the weapon involved in the incident.
The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit has conduct of the investigation. Initial information suggests that a group of youths were playing basketball and lighting off fireworks in the park. There was allegedly a confrontation over the fireworks involving two additional unknown youth suspects. The interaction turned into a physical altercation between multiple parties and one youth victim was stabbed.
Police have been speaking with witnesses and gathering any CCTV footage in the area. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
