Police in Surrey seized a firearm from two men known to them at a traffic stop. Surrey Police Service Gang Crime Unit said they seized a firearm and a loaded magazine in a vehicle and arrested two men following a traffic stop in east Newton late on January 16th. Police did not identify the two men but they are believed to be involved in a criminal group.

SURREY – Police in Surrey seized a firearm from two men known to them at a traffic stop.

Surrey Police Service Gang Crime Unit said they seized a firearm and a loaded magazine in a vehicle and arrested two men following a traffic stop in east Newton late on January 16th. 

Police did not identify the two men but they are believed to be involved in a criminal group.

At about 11 pm on January 16th, Surrey Police Service Gang Crime Unit officers were conducting proactive patrols in east Newton when they stopped a vehicle near 140th Street and 78th Avenue after seeing it driving erratically.

During the stop, officers located two knives, a firearm magazine loaded with .22 calibre rounds, and an unloaded .22 calibre rifle that had been heavily modified to resemble the size of a handgun.

The driver and passenger, both of whom are known to police, were arrested and released on an undertaking pending further investigation and potential consideration of criminal charges by the BC Prosecution Service. The firearm was seized and will be submitted for forensic testing.
