NDP Calls For Further Probe Into Hockey Canada’s Involvement In Alleged Sexual Assault Cases Following Funding Suspension
NDP is asking for further probe into disturbing involvement of Hockey Canada into alleged sexual assault cases following the government’s decision to suspend funding to the national hockey program. NDP House Leader Peter Julian called for further investigation into their involvement in the alleged sexual assault case from 2018 following Hockey Canada’s testimony on Monday. A consensus was reached at the Canadian Heritage Committee to pursue this study.

OTTAWA – NDP is asking for further probe into disturbing involvement of Hockey Canada into alleged sexual assault cases following the government’s decision to suspend funding to the national hockey program.
NDP House Leader Peter Julian called for further investigation into their involvement in the alleged sexual assault case from 2018 following Hockey Canada’s testimony on Monday. A consensus was reached at the Canadian Heritage Committee to pursue this study.
“We must get to the bottom of how Hockey Canada handles sexual assault cases to better understand how this was addressed,” said Julian. “Canadians are shocked to hear about this situation and they want to see action to prevent this from happening again.”
During this week’s committee hearing, the Minister of Sport left many questions unanswered regarding the handling of Hockey Canada’s involvement in this case. The NDP is looking for answers on how her department addressed this serious case and why it took so long to react.
“Was the Minister of Sport informed about this alleged case in 2018? If not, why not? If yes, why didn’t the Minister at the time act on that information?” added Julian. “Parents who have kids in hockey have the right to know why Hockey Canada handled this case in such an irresponsible manner. And they deserve to know what their government is doing concretely for a real culture change in the face of sexual misconduct and assault connected to Hockey Canada and other sports organizations across the country.”
The Committee will meet on July 26 and 27 at which time the Minister of Sport, Hockey Canada and the third-party investigator into the alleged sexual assault case will be invited to appear before the Canadian Heritage Committee.
