Vancouver-based model-actress and career woman Kajal Kumar is living out her dream and pursuing passion projects during tough COVID-19 times. She is currently riding high with the Maxim Magazine Cover Girl Contest where so far she is in 1st place in her group. Accounting by trade, she entered the contest to spread awareness about social media and how followers are beginning to become a measurement of self worth.
DESIBUZZCanada asked Kumar to elaborate on the contest and herself and here are excerpts from our interview with her.
DESIBUZZCanada: Tell us a little about yourself - what you do?
Kajal Kumar: My name is Kajal Kumar. I originate from the Fiji islands but was raised in Vancouver, BC. I graduated high school at the age of 16 which led me to an early start in obtaining my accounting degree. I currently do corporate accounting and had successful investments in crypto and real estate property. By balancing a stable career in accounting and still pursuing my passion in acting and modeling, today I can say that I have a net worth of $870,000.00. It is possible to follow your passions, but you always need something to fall back on.
DC: How did you get involved in the Maxim Magazine Cover Girl Contest?
KK: With covid-19, and self-isolation, I found myself losing confidence in myself, and losing track of the goals I needed to attain. When I came across the Maxim Magazine Cover Girl Contest, I thought it would be the perfect way to rebuild some of that confidence. Also, each additional vote helps fund homes for wounded warriors, so I feel great that I am contributing to an amazing cause !
DC: What do you expect to gain from the contest?
KK: The winner does get a cover shoot on the front page of Maxim Magazine as well as a $25,000 cash prize. If I do win, I would like to use part of those funds to start a charity in my home town in Fiji Islands to help children with education, housing and clothing.
DC: What are your views on The negative effects of social media verses Net- worth?
KK: I’m starting to feel that the amount of followers you have on social media is starting to become a measurement of self-worth. I feel like people are constantly looking to story-views or the amount of likes received on a post to judge their creative content. I strongly believe that social media is great advocate to gaining recognition, but don’t let that sway your inspiration or judgement. Believe In your talents and creativity and take yourself seriously. Don’t allow social media to help you lose track of your goals or the bigger picture. I feel that if followers were instead net-worth, everyone would be concentrated on creating a financial base for themselves instead of seeking approval from others. With today's world and In seeing how much time, effort and resources people are putting into creating videos for social media, I feel that the monetary return is not there. You may gain followers but don’t lose track of using your time for financial gain and saving for the future. For myself, I know that it was difficult trying to make a living through modeling and acting, but I ensured that I had something to fall back on, and today thay method worked and I became very successful.
DC: What are your future plans in modeling-acting?
KK: My future plans include pursuing modeling and acting to attain a voice to motivate others to follow their passions alongside having a financial backing. You can be successful both financially and mentally, as long as you put your mind, heart and passions forward. It is possible, and I am living proof! Keep your head up high.
