SURREY – Liberal MP Sukh Dhaliwal made some real noise Monday evening at a packed rally of supporters who turned out in droves to support his mayoral run in Surrey under the United Surrey banner.
Earlier on Monday, Sukh Dhaliwal officially announced his Surrey mayoral bid along with his team which includes former NDP MP Jasbir Dhaliwal and initial candidates Jeff Bridge, Julie Temple and Becky Zhou.
Surrey municipal elections will be held on October 15 and Dhaliwal and his team join a long list of already announced candidates for mayor including NDP MLA Jinny Sims of Surrey Forward, Brenda Locke of Surrey Connect and incumbent scandal-ridden mayor Doug McCallum and his Safe Surrey which are staring down a bleak path of likely big failure.
Dhaliwal with his interaction with the media said that people were concerned due to the current City Council's rift policy in Surrey and that people had approached him and demanded that he get into municipal politics.
On the question of policing in Surrey, Dhaliwal said he supports a smooth transition from RCMP to Surrey police but that his foremost priority is the safety and protection of Surrey residents.
