SURREY – The man gunned down in Surrey on Tuesday in the Guildford area of Surrey has been identified as a South Asian man. The police had earlier said the killing was part of the ongoing BC gang conflict and the shooting that left another man injured was targeted.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Thursday they have identified the victim as 20-year-old Jayden Prasad of Surrey and is seeking information from the public.

On May 2 at 8:00 p.m., the Surrey RCMP responded to reports of a shooting in a parking lot located in the 14800-block of 108 Avenue.  Upon attendance, police located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to hospital, one, a 20-year-old male from Surrey, has since succumbed to his injuries while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries who was transferred to hospital and later released.

IHIT said Prasad was known to police and initial information suggests that this was a targeted incident with ties to the BC Gang Conflict.  A possible suspect vehicle was located a short time later in Langley, with indications that an attempt was made to light it on fire.

“We are releasing Mr. Prasad’s identification in an effort to build a time line of his activities leading up to the homicide,” IHIT said in a press release.

“This incident took place in the parking lot of a convenience store around 8 p.m., and once again, we are seeing a complete disregard for public safety in our communities. IHIT investigators are urging anyone with information on this incident, or who may have witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken with us, to please call police,” says IHIT Media Relations Officer, Corporal Sukhi Dhesi.

We are asking anyone with dashcam video or CCTV in the area of 148 Street and 108 Avenue in Surrey on May 2 between 7:45 p.m, and 8:15 p.m., and 200 Street and 36 Avenue in Langley between 8:30 p.m., and 10:30 p.m., to contact IHIT.

IHIT is continuing to work closely with the Surrey RCMP, and is pursuing all potential avenues of investigation and canvassing the area, collecting evidence and identifying witnesses.

We are asking anyone with information about this murder to contact IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
