BURNABY – A man has been charged with killing a South Asian man in Burnaby in 2021.

A 27-year-old Liam Reilly of Vancouver has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in relation to a fatal shooting in Burnaby.

On February 11, 2021, at approximately 10:07 p.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to reports of a shooting in the 6100-block of McKee Street in Burnaby. Frontline officers located 44-year-old Neal Pratap suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Pratap was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) assumed conduct of the investigation and worked in close partnership with the Burnaby RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to further the investigation.

After years of coordinated investigation and evidence gathering, IHIT investigators met the charge approval standard for murder.

On October 24, 2025, IHIT investigators, with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT), arrested Liam Reilly. The BC Prosecution Service laid one count of second-degree murder against Mr. Reilly, who remains in custody.

“This shooting took place in what is usually a very quiet neighbourhood in Burnaby,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Residents in the area were certainly surprised and left feeling uneasy after this incident.”

“The laying of charges reflects the hard work and persistence on the part of the investigators, and the expertise of the Crown Counsel involved in the assessment process. We look forward to the evidence being presented in court.”

Police said as this matter is now before the court, no further information will be released.
