Harsimran Singh Birdi was discovered in an alley in the 9700 block of Harvest Hills area of Calgary on April 7, 2016. Abdullah Mela of Calgary has been charged with second-degree murder and Nadar Abdulbaki, also from Calgary, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
CALGARY – Two men were arrested Monday in connection with what investigators believe was the targeted killing of an Indo-Canadian man from Calgary who was found dead in an alley in Harvest Hills area of the city in 2016.
Harsimran Singh Birdi, 20, was discovered in an alley in the 9700 block of Harvest Hills Link N.E. on April 7 last year.
Police recently released surveillance images of a man that they believe was with Birdi in the hours before his death. Investigators believe Birdi was targeted.
Police arrested two men on Monday, reiterating they believe the killing was “targeted.”
In November 2017, police made two separate pleas for help in the case, asking the public to identify three persons of interest and two vehicles related to the homicide.
Abdullah Mela, 21, of Calgary has been charged with second-degree murder.
Nadar Abdulbaki, also 21 and from Calgary, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court this week.
