Following a fulsome investigation by the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit, Karnvir Garcha, a Surrey resident, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. Garcha is currently in custody and will appear in court later this month. The stabbing occurred at the concert featuring violence-prone singer-rappers Sidhu Moosewala and Elly Manga, where 500 people had gathered at the time before the violence broke out.

 SURREY - Surrey RCMP have charged an Indo-Canadian man in the 2019 stabbing at a banquet hall in Newton.

Charges have been laid against a 22-year-old Karnvir Garcha in connection with a stabbing which occurred on February 15, 2019, at Bollywood Banquet hall in the 8100-block of 128 Street in the Newton area.

Following a fulsome investigation by the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit, Garcha, a Surrey resident, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. Garcha is currently in custody and will appear in court later this month.

 “We appreciate all who came forward to assist us in this investigation,” says Staff Sergeant Kirk Duncan, Surrey RCMP. “We all have a responsibility when it comes to public safety and, in this instance, everyone stepped-up and helped us to bring about a successful conclusion.”

Some 500 people were gathered at Bollywood Banquet hall at the time for a performance by violence prone Punjabi singer-rappers Sidhu Moosewala and Elly Mangat.

The concert was shut down as people rushed from the building.

Video posted on social media at the time showed a brawl had broken out inside.

Police said previously that a suspect had turned himself in a short time after the RCMP released a photo of a suspect wanted in connection with the incident. Garcha was that suspect.
