An Indo-Canadian man has been arrested after an investigation led by Surrey RCMP’s Special Victim’s Unit led to charges being approved in a sexual assault investigation which began in July 2024. On August 16, 24-year-old Jatinder Singh of Surrey was charged with number of offences. Singh is described as a South Asian man with his long dark hair pulled up into a bun on  the top of his head, with a full dark brown or black beard and moustache, dark eye brows  and dark eyes. On July 20, at 3:15 am, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of an alleged stranger sexual assault in the 14100-block of 91 Avenue. The victim reported that she was woken up by a man groping her in her residence. The victim screamed for help and the suspect fled.

On August 16, Jatinder Singh of Surrey was charged with the following offences - Break and Enter and Sexual assault

Singh was arrested on August 16, 2024, brought before the courts and released on conditions, some of which include:

*Have no contact or communication, directly or indirectly with the victim

*Not go to or be within 50 metres of where the victim lives, works, attends school, worships, or happens to be;

*Not go to or be within 50 metres of where the offence occurred;

*Not possess directly or indirectly any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code;

*Not possess any knives.

Police released a photo of Jatinder Singh as investigators believe there may be more people in the community who have additional information that could assist with advancing the investigation, says Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Sergeant Tammy Lobb.
