"It has been accomplished," Jesus says nailed to the cross in the very last image in Martin Scorsese's masterpiece The Last Temptation Of Christ!
It's truly an historic day for Sikh-Canadians to have a bright, qualified and an absolute inspiration to all Ontario MPP and Deputy leader Jagmeet Singh win the NDP leadership decisively on the first ballot in a truly monumental victory for Diversity and creating an historical moment for all Canadians whether they support him or not.
The World Sikh Organization of Canada was the first to congratulate Singh on being elected the leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP). They said Singh is the first racialized person and first Sikh to be elected leader of a federal party in Canada.
“We would like to congratulate Jagmeet Singh on becoming the next leader of Canada’s NDP. His campaign was inspirational and touched on many issues that are important to Canadians,” said WSO President Mukhbir Singh.
“But beyond just a victory for Jagmeet Singh and the NDP, this is a historical milestone in the story of Sikhs in Canada. We are delighted to see the engagement of Sikh Canadians on every level and in so many prominent positions. Just a generation earlier, many in our community could not have imagined a time where someone wearing the Sikh articles of faith would be so warmly accepted. The opportunity Canada has offered to Sikhs and people of every culture, faith and background is unparalleled and today we have yet another reason to be proud of being Canadian. We look forward to working with Jagmeet Singh and Canada’s NDP in the days ahead.”
WSO’s congratulations were echoed by Sikh Federation UK.
“This is amazing news for Sikh across the globe. Jagmeet Singh has made the whole Sikhcommunity proud. We have every confidence he can challenge Justin Trudeau in2019 to become the next Prime Minister of Canada. He will also champion Sikh rights not only inCanada, but on the international stage.”Bhai Amrik Singh, Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK).
The task ahead for Singh is a giant one to the PMO's office but for a man who battled racism during the campaign and showed Canadians the way to fighting hate with love, Singh is ready for the big Game of national Canadian politics.
PM Justin Trudeau must be shaking a bit right now as he will have a big fight on his hands from the centre-left! And while the road to becoming a prime minister is littered with stones, for now Singh will have a seat right opposite Trudeau as NDP leader in parliament and that's something truly Great.
We are so Proud of you Jagmeet Singh!
