Indo-Canadian Mountie Who Killed Herself Was Three And A Half Months Pregnant
- March 11, 2021
Thiara Family Have Many Questions Regarding The Death Of Their Daughter And Want Answers!
Martin Peters said a shocking revelation was revealed two days before Jasmine Thiara was found dead under the Moray Bridge. “The most important thing about this is Const. Jasmine Thiara was three-and-a-half months pregnant and the father of that fetus was a superior officer working in the Richmond detachment,” he said. Thiara’s family said the relationship with the senior officer was not public, adding the RCMP member started showing up at the house several months after Thiara graduated from RCMP training in December 2018
RICHMOND – In a bombshell revelation, it was revealed that Indo-Canadian mountie who killed herself was three months pregnant, deepening the mystery into her death and also raising a whole horde of questions like what is the name of the father of the unborn child who perished with the mother.
The father is a superior officer with the RCMP but has not yet been identified.
The untimely death of Richmond RCMP officer Jasmine Thiara two weeks ago is now under multiple investigations by a number of agencies.
Thiara;s family say they have many questions about the mysterious circumstances leading up to her death.
“She was caring, she was compassionate and she has a family who loves her so, so much and knows her so, so well that we won’t stop until we get answers,” Thiara’s sister Raven told Global New.
Thiara, who worked for the Richmond RCMP detachment for the past two years, left her New Westminster home on Feb. 21, telling her mother she was going to get some gas and food and then be right back. She took her badge and gun with her.
“Thirty minutes later, her car is found parked at the Gateway Hotel in Richmond,” Martin Peters, the lawyer for the victim’s family, told Global News.
“Her body is found on a bridge proximate to the hotel, the Moray Bridge, (with a) single gunshot wound to the head.”
An IIO report says calls to 911 reported a woman considering self harm at 9:15 p.m.
Just after 10 p.m., it says, police found — on the sidewalk of Richmond's Moray Bridge — a woman's body, which had suffered "what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries."
Peters says the young woman was not depressed or having suicidal thoughts before she was found.
Peters said a shocking revelation was revealed two days before Thiara was found dead.
“The most important thing about this is Const. Jasmine Thiara was three-and-a-half months pregnant and the father of that fetus was a superior officer working in the Richmond detachment,” he said.
Thiara’s family said the relationship with the senior officer was not public, adding the RCMP member started showing up at the house several months after Thiara graduated from RCMP training in December 2018, reported Global News.
Thiara’s family doesn’t know if the senior Mountie knew about the pregnancy, which was apparently ectopic, meaning the fetus would not survive.
Peters said he has asked for the initial coroner’s report but has not received a response to his request from the Coroners Service.
B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office has said Thiara appears to have died by suicide.
Thiara’s family told Global News there were no mental health issues they were aware of or any concerns connected to an upcoming sexual assault trial in which Thiara was set to testify. She was not the victim in the case.
“We need the cooperation of the coroner,” sister Raven Thiara said. “At the very least, please open an autopsy. She hasn’t had her first autopsy. She needs an autopsy. There was a baby inside.”
At least three separate investigations are underway which is why the IIO, RCMP and BC Coroners Service say they can’t comment on specific questions.
Thiara's sister, Raven Thiara, says, on the day of her sister's death, the family learned Jasmine was pregnant after finding a report from her obstetrician in her bedroom.
Raven says Thiara had completed RCMP training in 2018 after graduating UBC, following in the footsteps of an uncle who was a Mountie.
"She was wise. She was well beyond her years ... she was literally the embodiment of the principle of Sikhism — she was service."
Dawn Roberts, the officer in charge of the B.C. The RCMP communications section said, in an emailed statement, the RCMP is investigating.
"The matter is subject to a sudden death investigation by the BC Coroners Service to determine the facts surrounding the death and the IIO BC is also investigating, she said.
"The RCMP has also launched an internal administrative review which is being handled by members from outside of the Richmond RCMP. All of which remain active and ongoing. We are fully participating and committed to determining the circumstances in this tragic death."
