RICHMOND – Young Indo-Canadian RCMP facing personal demons took her own life under the Oak Street Bridge.
Constable Jasmine Thiara, a member of the Richmond RCMP, allegedly used her own pistol to shoot herself Monday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you a note from the Commanding Officer of E Division on the sudden passing of Constable Jasmine Thiara in British Columbia,” Richmond RCMP said in a statement.
Cst. Thiara was a longstanding member of “D” Watch in Richmond.
“On behalf of the RCMP, I offer my deepest condolences to Jasmine’s family, friends and co-workers. We will be providing her family with all the support we can during this difficult time,” RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki.
“I am grateful to her family for allowing us to share that she died as a result of suicide. As a first-responder organization, this is one of the most important conversations we can have. The more we talk about it, the easier it is for those who are suffering to get the help they need. This is something we need to keep front-and-center every day of the year. If you think a family member, colleague or friend needs help, don’t be shy to offer your support and reassurance. It is ok to seek help,” Lucki added.
Lucki said hearing of the sudden passing of a colleague, regardless of where or how they served, is not easy and can affect each of us in different ways. We have many health programs and services
“With the proper support and assistance, recovery is possible. No matter where you are in the RCMP, we are a family – look out for one another and make your mental health a priority,” Luck said.
Mental health services are available to RCMP employees - Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)Services are also available to RCMP members suffering with mental health issues such as PTSD - https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/fam/ptsd-tspt-eng.htm
