A suspect identified as Brampton resident Gurpinder Singh has since been charged with sexual assault, uttering a death threat, extortion and voyeurism.

TORONTO – A 28-year-old Indo-Canadian man has been charged after an international student was lured to a Toronto hotel room and sexually assaulted.

Police said that the student travelled to Toronto from another province on Nov. 15 to meet a man at a hotel. The man, police said, had promised to help her set up a bank account in Canada, reported CTV News.

She went to a hotel room in the city where she was allegedly sexually assaulted, photographed without her consent and threatened with death.

Police said she was sexually assaulted once she was in the hotel room. Investigators allege the man then took photographs of the student and threatened both her and her family.

A short time later, police arrested and charged a suspect they identified as Gurpinder Singh.

He faces charges of sexual assault, uttering a death threat, extortion and voyeurism.

Investigators say they believe there are other victims who have not yet come forward.
