SURREY – Three young hockey players from Surrey, including an Indo-Canadian youth, were killed when their car collided with a tree in the Fraser Heights area of Surrey.

On August 21, at 2:47 am, Surrey RCMP along with Emergency Health Services and Surrey Fire Service responded to the report of a single vehicle collision into a tree in the 16000-block of 104th Avenue. Upon attendance it was determined that all three occupants were deceased.

The three victims of the crash played with the Delta Hockey Academy and were between 16 and 17 years old. They have been identified as Ronin Sharma, Caleb Reimer and Parker Magnuson.

Sharma was about to start his rookie campaign with the B.C. Hockey League’s Langley Rivermen.

“We lost a young man who made each and every one of our lives better, as well as brighter, every day he came to play the game we all love,” the Rivermen said in a statement.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstructive Service (ICARS) and the Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) were on scene working to determine the cause of the collision.

“Tragedies like this one deeply impact everyone involved,” says Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Vanessa Munn. “Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of the three individuals who lost their lives this morning.”

Reimer spent most of last season with the Edmonton Oil Kings, who selected him in the first round (18th overall) of the 2019 Western Hockey League bantam draft.

“Caleb was a young man with a bright future both on and off the ice.  He was a person that you loved to be around, he was a great teammate and a great friend.” said Oil Kings president and general manager Kirt Hill.

“We will truly miss having Caleb in our lives each and every day.  He was part of our family and will be a tremendous loss in all of our hearts.”

Munn said victim services are available to help families “with navigating the next steps,” and that the neighbourhood support team is available to support the community.

“We do recognize that something like that has a great impact on the community,” Munn said.
