WEST VANCOUVER – Victims in the massive head-on crash last week in West Vancouver have been identified as Indian students who like thousands of others came to study in Canada.
West Vancouver Police Department said the accident that killed two young men from India in Canada on student visas happened around 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, when a woman driving a vehicle travelling “eastbound in the westbound lanes” near Westport Road caused a “head-on collision.”
Police say they are not able to share more details, including names of the victims, but a release on Wednesday confirmed that the men were 20 and 21-years-old.
It said another 20-year-old and 19-year-old were seriously injured in the crash.
The crash resulted “in the tragic death of two people and sending the remaining passengers to hospital,” the WVPD said last week.
The lone occupant of the vehicle travelling east was a 26-year-old woman, who police say is also a “foreign national.”
Sgt. Chris Bigland of the WVPD called the incident “heartbreaking,” adding that the families of the deceased and injured have been notified.
