A pedestrian, who was left in serious condition with life threatening injuries after a hit and driver hit the man crossing the street near 82 and 128 Street in Surrey, has died, the police said Monday. The 31-year-old male pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries but he died in hospital. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. The only current description of the vehicle is a black sedan with front end damage, last seen north bound on 128th street.

SURREY – A pedestrian, who was left in serious condition with life threatening injuries after a hit and driver hit the man crossing the street near 82 and 128 Street in Surrey, has died, the police said Monday.

Surrey RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in a pedestrian motor vehicle collision that occurred Saturday in the Newton area of Surrey.

On 07-29, at approximately 0038 hours, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian hit and run collision in the 8200 block of 128th street. Responding police officers learned a black sedan was north bound on 128th street, when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The subsequent collision resulted in the vehicle sustaining obvious front end damage.

The 31-year-old male pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The suspect vehicle fled the scene. The only current description of the vehicle is a black sedan with front end damage, last seen north bound on 128th street.

The investigation is in the very early stages and police are on scene collecting CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors.

The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation team is working to identify the vehicle and driver that fled the scene. The vehicle is described as a blue sedan with front end damage, last seen northbound on 128 Street.

“Investigators know that there were multiple people on scene, some that may have witnessed the collision or arrived shortly after,” says Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Vanessa Munn.  “Police are urging anyone who was there that night or who may have dash camera footage of the collision or suspect vehicle to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.”

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage, in the area of 128th street, between 0035 and 0045 hours, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2023-126345.
