VANCOUVER - NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is an elated first time dad as he and his wife Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu welcomed a new addition to their family, a baby girl born Jan. 3.

Singh posted about the news on Instagram on Thursday, writing that both mom and baby are healthy and their “hearts are filled with gratitude.”

Singh, 43, and Sidhu, 31, were married in February 2018.

Sidhu is a fashion designer and co-founder with her sister of Jangiiro, a “new age south Asian” clothing line.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his congratulations on Twitter.

“Such wonderful news - congratulations to you and your family! Sophie and I are wishing you all good health and many happy moments together,” he said.

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole did the same.

“Congratulations! Wishing you all the very best as you both enter parenthood!” he said.
