The great Punjabi artist Jarnail Singh, who made Canada home and displayed his art of painting in BC to great heights, winning accolades and art lovers, passed away back in his motherland of Punjab, India at the age of 70. Born into an artist father S. Karnail Singh, Jarnail Singh grew up in Ferozpur and completed his higher education in Chandigarh. Following in his father’s footsteps, he took part in many painting exhibitions across India. He even got the Punjab Lalit Kala Academy Award for his work in the field of art and painting.

CHANDIGARH – The great Punjabi artist Jarnail Singh, who made Canada home and displayed his art of painting in BC to great heights, winning accolades and art lovers, passed away back in his motherland of Punjab, India at the age of 70.

Born into an artist father S. Karnail Singh, Jarnail Singh grew up in Ferozpur and completed his higher education in Chandigarh. Following in his father’s footsteps, he took part in many painting exhibitions across India. He even got the Punjab Lalit Kala Academy Award for his work in the field of art and painting.

Many of his paintings are showcased in museums of Punjab and abroad, including here in his adopted homeland of Canada. He had shown the cultural and historical events of Punjab through his paintings. 

He moved to Canada more than four decades back, where he resided before his death. But a month back, he had gone to Punjab and was in Chandigarh reaching out to his friends for get-togethers. 

But before he could return to Canada, he passed away, leaving his legacy of celebrated artwork behind.

Jarnail Singh’s family is holding final rites and celebration to remember their great patriarch who made the world a better place with his art.
