Gadhri Babeyan Da Mela founder Sahib Thind recently met with Corbyn recently in the UK after he was approached by people in India to make the direct contact. The opposition Labour leader who had a very good showing in recent polls has been working closely with the Sikh community in UK but the Conservative Theresa May government has not been forthcoming with the apology similarly as how Stephen Harper's Conservative government wasn't for the Komagata Maru apology which was eventually done by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Other UK Sikh organizations, including Sikh Federation (UK) have also been pushing with the apology and Thind acknowledges that hopefully the collective effort will bear fruit as he found Corbyn very welcoming and open to this important apology for Sikhs as well as Punjab and India.

SURREY – Recently UK Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party, met with Gadhri Babeyan Da Mela founder Sahib Thind and vowed to work with the Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation in their mission to get an official apology from the UK Government for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and other colonial atrocities

Other UK Sikh organizations, including Sikh Federation (UK) have also been pushing with the apology and Thind acknowledges that hopefully the collective effort will bear fruit as he found Corbyn very welcoming and open to this important apology for Sikhs as well as Punjab and India.

Sahib-Thind

Here is the text of Mr. Corbyn's pledge:

“Thank you very much. Saddiq Khan, when he visited, supported the call for an apology. I too support the call for an apology. And, I think that it’s important, as this letter quite rightly points out, that Sikh people made their homes in Britain, made an enormous contribution to our society, laid down their lives in the First World War and Second World War… deserve that recognition, and what happened in 1919 is appalling. It is time we apologized for it”.

The Professor Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation is a secular, non-political human rights organization focused on promoting the continued growth of an open, tolerant, and 'just society' and says it has been working with governments worldwide, including in North America, Asia, and Europe to address the matter of official parliamentary apologies for historical wrongs committed by colonial powers and their proxies for over 25 years.
