The story of this year’s Indian Idol winner is truly rags to riches. Salman Ali, aka Sunny, a shoeshine boy from Bathinda, has won the Indian Idol 11, taking home the cash prize of Rs25 lakh, a car and a singing contract with T-Series. As his name was announced as winner around midnight on Sunday, members of his family, relatives and residents of Amarpura Basti burst into celebrations. People started thronging his house on Monday morning to congratulate his family. They distributed sweets, burst crackers and danced to the beats of “dhol”.
