Four member of an Indo-Canadian family are dead after a tragic accident Wednesday morning which closed Highway 3 for several hours. Although the police have not identified the deceased, social media posts have listed them as closely related members of an extended Indo-Canadian family from Abbotsford who were traveling to Kelowna. According to the information from family members, the deceased include a middle-aged man, his wife, his daughter and his sister-in-law. The alleged deceased according to unverified information are Sukhwant Singh Brar of village Rodikpura of Faridkot district, his wife Rajinder Kaur, daughter Kamal Kaur and sister-in-law Chinder Kaur. According to Keremos RCMP, on July 10 at 11:30 am, they along with BC Highway Patrol and first responders received reports of a serious collision on Highway 3 near Becks Road in Keremeos, BC, involving two cars and a tractor trailer.

According to the information from family members, the deceased include a middle-aged man, his wife, his daughter and his sister-in-law.

According to Keremos RCMP, on July 10 at 11:30 am, they along with BC Highway Patrol and first responders received reports of a serious collision on Highway 3 near Becks Road in Keremeos, BC, involving two cars and a tractor trailer.

Police said sadly, four adults of an extended family, all from the same vehicle, were found deceased on scene. The occupants of the other vehicles were uninjured.

“This is a terrible tragedy. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen RCMP spokesperson Sgt Jason Bayda said. “Our thoughts are also with the first responders and members of the public impacted by this incident.”

Police said during this time of year, they see a significant increase of traffic incidents on our roadways. Police are reminding everyone to slow down and remain alert to your surroundings.

Highway 3 was closed for approximately 8 hours with a detour provided while first responders were on scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Police said no additional details will be released at this time.
